Vapouriser Replacement in Kent: Why Regeneration Can Fail
If a DPF keeps filling with soot or a regeneration will not complete, the filter may be the consequence rather than the original fault. On applicable diesel vehicles, the fuel vapouriser is one part of the regeneration system that may need checking.
What is a vapouriser?
A fuel vapouriser supplies fuel into the exhaust system to help raise the temperature needed for regeneration. It is sometimes referred to as a fifth injector. It is fitted to certain diesel applications, including some Ford models; not every diesel uses this arrangement.
How can it affect the DPF?
If the vapouriser becomes blocked or develops a fault, regeneration may be affected. Soot can then continue to build up. Ford identifies clogging as a possible cause of incorrect regeneration, DPF-related fault codes and engine malfunction.
Does a DPF warning prove the vapouriser is faulty?
No. Similar symptoms can arise from other faults. We use the vehicle details, recorded codes and appropriate checks to diagnose the underlying problem. The purpose is to establish what needs attention rather than replace a vapouriser simply because a DPF warning is present.
Replacement and cleaning are different jobs
Where a faulty vapouriser is confirmed, we discuss replacement and any associated work. The condition of the DPF still needs consideration: correcting the regeneration fault does not automatically remove soot already restricting the filter. Suitable on-vehicle cleaning may also be required.
