Suspension Repairs in Kent: Knocking Noises & an Uneven Ride

PEARLS VEHICLE SERVICES · 3 NOVEMBER 2026

A new knock over bumps, a bouncy ride or a car sitting lower on one side can be a reason to arrange a suspension inspection. The location and timing of the symptom help, but the noise alone rarely identifies the exact component.

Knocking over bumps

Tell us whether the noise comes from the front or rear, one side or both, and whether it happens over small bumps or larger dips. Worn joints, mountings and other components can produce similar sounds. We check the vehicle before deciding what needs replacing.

A ride that has become bouncy or unsettled

Shock absorbers help control suspension movement. Wear can affect how the vehicle responds to bumps and changes in load. If it feels less settled than usual, describe the change rather than waiting for a dramatic failure or assuming the road surface is the only cause.

Uneven tyre wear and changes in handling

Tyre wear can have several causes, including pressure, alignment and worn components. Replacing a tyre alone may leave an underlying issue unresolved. Mention any recent kerb or pothole impact, steering changes or repeated tyre wear when enquiring.

Uneven ride height

A vehicle sitting differently from normal needs assessment. Avoid reaching beneath it to inspect a suspected broken spring or loose component. If a tyre is rubbing, a component appears detached or the handling feels unsafe, arrange assistance rather than driving to the workshop.

Booking suspension work

Send your registration, mileage, postcode and a description of the noise or handling change. Photographs of the vehicle’s stance or an inspection report can help. We offer suitable mobile repairs across Kent, with workshop appointments for work that needs additional facilities.
